Hi! I am having a problem with Floppy Disks lately. Most of the time, they allow to have files saved on them. However, a problem has been happening frequently, and it is getting annoying. Sometimes when I go to save a file to a Floppy Disk, a box pops up that says: "Error Copying File or Folder Cannot Create or Replace (file name here): The directory or file cannot be created." It gives an "OK" button to click on. Also in the box, is a red circle with an X in it.
Why does it tell me this? Why can it save things of the same type, and then can't save them all of a sudden? The disks are not full when it tells me this.

One little thing, AnimalAngel - floppy disks don't have an unlimited lifespan. They get old and damaged (keep them away from magnets).

Actually, I've heard that floppy disks are going to be obsolete in the near future.

It sounds to me like your floppy disk drive may have some problems. You can replace the drive for just a few dollars ($25 or less) and they are pretty easy to install. This site may help.

I would guess that you need your floppy disk drive to read files previously created. But I have to agree with Tree, floppy disks are pretty limited these days. You may find something like a "jump drive" much more useful. It connects to the computer via the USB (Universal Serial Bus) connection (no installation). You can carry these drives with you on your key chain, so it is always available. You can get them with storage capacities up to 1 GB for $110 and down to 64MB for $25.

For more long term file storage, you may wish to use a CD-RW - Write to CDs. To do this, you will need a CD writer. If you don't have one installed, you can purchase either an internal or external writer. They will run about $60 - $80 and are available at any computer store.

Yes, I know using Floppy Disks is an outdated
way of saving files. When I can, I'll get a
CD-RW. For now, I have to use Floppy Disks.
Speaking of those, there could possibly be something
wrong with the drive...but there shouldn't be anything wrong with the disks themselves. I don't put them near anything that can harm them, and they are not that old. Plus, it says "Lifetime Warranty" on the box they came in. I have also heard Floppy Disks are not going to be around much longer, but I heard that quite a while back...and they're still here. I know they'll vanish, though.
