The true resolution of the Visioneer 8920 is 1200 dpi horizontal x 4800 vertical. While advertised as a 48-bit color scanner, the output is only 24-bit. Even the "24-bit output" is fiction, however, as the analog-to-digital converter the scanner uses is only 16-bit.

Considering that the critical specifications are grossly exaggerated (as Visioneer does for all their scanners) -- NOT recommended.

I just purchased a HP 4 in 1 4100 series (printer/scanner/copier/fax) as my old scanner wasn't compatible with my new processor. Gives me great prints, scans and copies, was under $150.00 and has a feeder tray that can be folded and closed up so it gives me a lot more desk space. (I haven't opened the fax feature as yet).
