If my computer's been on for awhile the sound seems to stop working and I have to restart the computer to listen to any thing online. However, the sound will work fine if I play a cd. Any ideas to why this happens?

We will need to know about your system:
1. What Operating System?
2. What type of sound system (for instance, is it a 4-channel or 2-channel)? If the sound just came with the computer system, then what model of computer is it?

3. Look up what sound card that your system is using. This program download may be helpful: PC Wizard

(PC WIZARD 2006 is a powerful utility designed especially for detection of hardware, but also some more analysis. It's able to identify a large scale of system components and supports the latest technologies and standards. This tool is periodically updated (usually once per month) in order to provide most accurate results).

This page may also help with the system details.

In the meantime, I suggest you open your Internet Explorer/Tools menu/Internet Options/General tab

Delete the Temporary Internet Files and the Cookies and restart the system. This will clear any possibly damaged files. It might help. Restart the computer.

Then, open the Internet Explorer and click "Tools" / Windows Update.

Install any critical updates that may be available for your machine.

Once that is completed and the computer restarted, click:
Start
Run
Type in: dxdiag
Click: OK

If prompted, allow the WHQL digital signature.

Then look for any listed "problems files".

Run the diagnostics under both video and sound.

Report any anomalies and/or run the "more help" options.

I hope something here will be helpful.
