Greetings.

Saw the site and thought I'd sign up to offer my assistance. I'm here to help with just about any computer topic, but my key focus for joining, was printers.

A little about myself. I've been repairing computers since 84. I'm well versed in hardware problems for the PC. I'm a Certified Technician for all HP and Lexmark Laser Printers, and have access to their entire collection of service manuals, which are available to Authorized Service Centers.

Just let me know if I could be of any assistance.

Hi PT and welcome to the pool! Hopefully I won't need your help, but glad to know you're here in case; you will find a lot of great people on this site. I'm relatively new here myself, but feel very much at home. It's not only an informative site, but a fun one also; check out the trivia!

Welcome PrinterTech!
Just the person I require..
I have a Lexmark Z55 and the ink cartridge holder appears to be stuck, when I attempt to load the cartridges the carrier refuses to go to the load position,it just stutters in the left hand side making a thumping noise, and the green indicator light flashes. It is new, out of the box, never been used, as I can`t load the ink!! Lexmark sent me a new one which works fine and supprisingly told me to keep the broken one,WooHoo..I was keeping it for spares but then saw your post and thought..well maybe with help from your good self I could repair it (get my big hammer out )then give it to Alison to use with her laptop, and stop her pestering me whenever she needs to print anything out.
I have a feeling you will be kept quite busy here

PrinterTech, it is great to have you join us in the 'Pool. I look forward to reading your posts. By the way, if you haven't already seen it, there is a Member's Services Directory where you can post information about your printer services. It is available in the General Discussion area: General Discussion

If I can ever be of assistance, please let me know.

Welcome to AnswerPool.com!

P.S. And welcome to Sailracer, too!

Well, it seems that you have a newer printer than I have a service manual for. Unfortunately, unlike HP, Lexmark doesn't offer their service manuals as downloads, but actually get sent to me on CD's. My newest CD is dated April 2003, and I don't think your Z55 is in there, but to be certain, on your printer, there should be a sticker with your printers serial number. On that same sticker, you should see something that lists machine type. For example, Machine Type: 5060-001. Lexmark uses this to determine your printer, rather than model number. If you can send your type to me, I should be able to help. From what it sounds like, the carrier (the place where you put the ink cartridges) may be broken. What I would start by suggesting, is with the power off, see if you can freely move the carrier. If it doesn't move, try and push the carrier to the right. Yes, to the right, because you want to try and return it to it's parked position. If you can move it to the right, then try powering on the printer and seeing if it's going to move into it's loading position. You're trying to see if you can allow it to unlock.

As far as Lexmark replacing the printer and not wanting the defective one back, indicates to me a major failure, and is most likely unrepairable, but that's just my opinion.

Hi again PrinterTech, you were right I tried what you suggested and it seems the only way the carrier will return to it`s parked position,is with a lot of brute force, probably breaking something else in the process!
Oh well...was worth a try.
Thanks PT
