Have to agree with crescen7 on this one (wish I could build my own) here is my answer to to a similar post:-

"At the beginning of August this year I got a new Dell Dimension 4500,and it rocks! Did however have some reservations about Dell`s after-sale and Tech. help service which I gather was pretty dire a couple of years back but checking further found that they had cleaned up their act in both departments(fortunately have not had to use either as yet so can`t really confirm this). I selected a Lexmark Z55 printer with my bundle and the ink cartridge carrier jammed when I was setting it up, Lexmark identified it as a faulty unit and I received a new unit six days later and was told I could to keep the faulty one for spares! This is down to Lexmark rather than Dell though."

If you are thinking of buying I would get as many opinions as you can from forums, friends newsgroups etc.

I think so, it's important to know what is in your computer!

If you are going to get a pre-built computer, that's ok as long as you know exactly what it is you need. If you don't know, ask. I still see many pre-builts going out these days with only 32MB of RAM, which is only ok if you never want to play any of the new games or use any of the new graphics programs which have come out over the past couple of years. My reccomedation is to ask for suggestions on what type RAM, Processor, Hardrive, Video Card, Sound Card, you should get. There are many different things to know...such as speeds and compatabilites. Once you have all the information you need, call the computer company of your choice (doesn't matter who as long as they are a fairly large name and doesn't seem in danger of going out of business anytime soon) and tell them what you want. They will put it together for you and send it to you.

While this may seem like a lot of work (and it is) it is MUCH better than spending the next few years frustrated with an ineffective machine. You will also spend a lot less money in the long run if you know what your needs are and what is and is not a good deal.
