"Appreciate the effort Mozart, but I do not have a disk (I downloaded the driver)...".
When we use the term "disk" that doesn't necessarily mean that you must have a floppy or CD disk. It only means to direct the driver update window to the save location of your driver file. You said that you "Downloaded the driver for a Visioneer 5800". In your situation, the save location for your driver download is the place you would direct the driver window too, for installation.
If your Visioneer 5800 driver file is a self executable (the file extension is .exe), then in most cases you need only to open the file and the driver file installation will begin automatically.
One thing I've learned about the the Visioneer line of scanners is that (in some cases) the old driver(s) must be uninstalled before a new one can be installed.
See this page for uninstall details. Look for the section in the .pdf file for "UNINSTALLING YOUR VISIONEER ONETOUCH SCANNER
FOR WINDOWS 98, 98 SE, &ME:" or for "Windows 2000 or Windows XP" as appropriate for your computer system.
Well
