Yes, remove the old CD-ROM driver from the Device Manager.

1. Right click "My Computer"

2. click "Properties"

Windows XP

3a. Click the "Hardware" tab, then the Device Manager button

Windows 98, or WinME

3b. Click the "Device Manager" tab

4. Open the CD-ROM entry and select and remove the driver. (right click / uninstall in WinXP)

Then shutdown the computer and remove the old CD-ROM drive and install the new DVD drive in the same drive bay.

Restart the computer and install the new drivers.

You new hardware should have instructions covering this.

I can't help it. Talk about the north helping the south.

Or the largest state in the union helping the second largest.

Oh, Welcome to the pool denni.
