Hello, just want to have an idea how much energy the average computer consumes?..in my case I've a 17" tube monitor, 850mzh Celeron. Just looking for a ROUGH figure!

Also can anyone explain to me what AMPS are and how to calculate AMPS of about 10 PC as described above? My understanding of AMPS is that it's a sort of RESISTANCE... I live in Europe (240v) and am opening a Cyber Cafe... The electricity board has 30 AMPS and I wonder if it'll handle 10 PC as described above PLUS airconditioner of about 24.000 BTU...

Thanks!!!

The current draw will likely be no more than 0.7A @ 240V. Ten similar PCs would draw less than 7A (A = amps, V = volts).

Voltage, measured in volts, is the force which causes electrons to travel through a conductor (i.e., the electrical wiring in the building). Current, measured in amperes, is the amount of electron flow. Resistance (R), measured in ohms (" W "), limits the current.

There is a simple relationship between the three --

A=V/R

If the voltage remains constant, amperage increases as resistance decreases, and vice versa. If resistance remains constant, current increases as voltage increases.

The 24,000 BTU airconditioner should draw between 10A and 12A @ 240V, if it is a relatively new model. If you post the air conditioner question in Home and Garden/Home Improvement, Don Kliros or another poster knowledgeable in this area can probably give more specific information.

OK thanks. I've also posted the Aircon. question where you suggested.

Cheers.
