TomGL2, A quick question for you please? My backup pc is a Pentium 133 mhz with 2x32 EDO RAM , 32 MB total. The question I have is this: can I order a 32MB chip of the same type and install it with three 16 MB chips, or do they have to be indentical in each slot? Just making sure, the book I have says the banks dont have to be all the same, but I wanted to verify this. I'm about to order the chip here in a few minutes, so if you or anyone else who knows this answer could post a quick response I would deeply appreciate it! Thanks alot!
chris ================================================= 02-16-03, 08:11 PM ivnj It depends on your perticular MotherBoard! The manual will tell U! And they have no reason to lie so...!
ivnj ================================================= 02-16-03, 08:13 PM vansrme Ok, only I dont have the manual for this one. Anywhere else I can find it?
chris ================================================= 02-16-03, 08:25 PM ivnj What is the make and model?
ivnj ================================================= 02-16-03, 08:42 PM vansrme Its not a brand name pc, it was built. I cant find a place on the motherboard that tells me the stats on it. Where can I look? If you have an instant messenger, like msn or icq, you can message me and we can try to locate it. Or we can just keep posting, lol.
chris ================================================= 02-16-03, 09:51 PM ivnj Just goto
Download the Overclockedcafe Edition 'Standard' SANDRA 2003 Here (build 9.3.1.0 - 12/2002)
Download that and install it! Open it and double click on Mianboard Information! It should say there!
ivnj ================================================= 02-16-03, 10:25 PM vansrme ivnj, I downloaded Belarc, and here's the info it got:

chris ================================================= 02-16-03, 10:31 PM ivnj That info is no good! Download Sandra form my link and it'll give U the exact make and model of the board
ivnj ================================================= 02-17-03, 12:16 AM vansrme ok ivnj, Here's the info from sandra, sorry it took so long, the web is not cooperating here tonight. Here it is:

chris Performance Tips Tip 2536 : Tip not found! Tip 2 : Tip not found! ================================================= 02-17-03, 01:20 AM Di You might also check out the www.crucial.com website. Enter your system's information and they will come up with whatever part, chip, specification, etc. you need. Also, you can order it there. ================================================= 02-17-03, 03:56 AM TomGL2 The motherboard must be too old to have been included in Sandra's database. Working backward from the BIOS ID, however, I'm fairly certain that this is an ABit PR5 R2. If so, each bank (that is, each pair of SIMM sockets) must be populated by two identical devices.
You mentioned "2x32 EDO RAM", with 32 MB total RAM. I infer that you must have a pair of 4Mbit x 32 SIMMs (16 MB)installed. If you intend to leave them installed, the best you can do is add a pair of 8Mbit x 32 SIMMs (32 MB), for a total of 96 MB of RAM. Without the 16 MB devices, you could use 4 32 MB SIMMS for a total of 128 MB, the maximum for this board. ================================================= 02-17-03, 07:51 AM vansrme TomGL2, As of right now, right clicking on "my computer" shows me as having 32 MB RAM installed, so I assume I have four 8MB chips in the board, as there are 4 EDO slots in it. Would it be just as easy to install one 64MB EDO chip in it instead? It has two DIMM slots also, which type of DIMM chip could I use for that? Thanks!
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 10:21 AM ivnj It looks like U clicked System Summary in Sandra! Click the Mainboard Information icon!
First thing it says is Computer System! Then, Manufacturer, Model, Version, Serial Number, and Unique ID!
Just copy that info here!
ivnj ================================================= 02-17-03, 11:15 AM TomGL2 Before I go any farther out on a limb, it would be best if you could physically examine the motherboard to determine the make and model. ================================================= 02-17-03, 11:32 AM vansrme ivnj, I did click the mainboard info, thats what you saw.
TomGL2, I tried that, but couldnt find anything that looked like the make and model.
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 11:33 AM ivnj He already tried that! It was too hard! Unless U can suggest where to look!
ivnj ================================================= 02-17-03, 12:05 PM vansrme With all the crap in this computer , its nearly impossible to read certain parts of the board to determine anything, LOL.
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 12:09 PM ivnj But did U click on the Mainboard Info tab or not in Sandra yet!
ivnj
02-17-03, 01:15 PM vansrme Yes I did, the info is in the post that says"here is the info from sandra", and that is the mainboard info that I got when I clicked on main board in the large menu list of options.
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 04:02 PM ivnj Now I see but your info starts with System Mainboard! That is the third catagorie! Above (System Mainboard) in (Mainboard Information) it says (System Chassis) and Above that it says (Computer System)! Look there!
ivnj ================================================= 02-17-03, 04:49 PM vansrme hey TomGL2, question? Ok ivnj, None of those are "above" each other, lol, but I found them anyway! Here it is:
System Mainboard Bus(es) : ISA PCI MP support : no System Bios: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG System Chipset: Unknown (8086) Unknown (7030) L2 External Cache:512kb pipeline-burst write-back Front Side Bus Speed: 1x 66mhz (66mhz data rate) Installed memory:32MB EDO Memory Bus Speed:1x 66mhz (66mhz data rate)
This is all the info under "computer system"
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 05:05 PM ivnj U might have a different version! But does it say this anywhere!
Manufacturer, Model, Version, Serial Number, and Unique ID
ivnj ================================================= 02-17-03, 05:14 PM vansrme nowhere at all!
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 05:18 PM vansrme closest thing I can find under mainboard info is what I posted earlier:
model: Green PCI/ ISA system.
thats it, cant find anything else. LOL
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 05:31 PM ivnj Look at the whole application! It may be under another sub menu! Under My (Mainboard Informatiion) it says
Computer System Manufacturer : ECS Model : K7S5A Version : 1.0 Serial Number : 00000000 Unique ID : 00000000-00000000-00000000-00000000
then
System Chassis Manufacturer : ECS Case Type : Desktop Can be locked : No Version : Version 1.00 Serial Number : 123456890 Asset Tag : 0123ABC
then the rest like U first posted! If it doesn't say that on your system then its time for a new board! Or its not but I'm fresh out of ideas! SORRY-!)
ivnj ================================================= 02-17-03, 08:33 PM vansrme sorry guy, I looked everywhere for that info, and couldnt find it. thats ok tho, I'll order according to what was said about matching pairs, then hope for the best! Thanks for trying!
chris ================================================= 02-17-03, 10:07 PM qualserve Let's get on and answer the RAM question. If you are using EDO 72 pin SIMMS, you MUST mount them in matching pairs. Since you have 4 slots, I would recommend 2 pair of 16mb, for a total of 64 mb. 16+16=32x2(pairs)= 64 mb Big Grin ================================================= 02-17-03, 10:21 PM ivnj But a Motherboard Manual for double check would be nice!
ivnj ================================================= 02-19-03, 03:27 PM vansrme qualserve, thanks alot, I've already got the two pairs of 16MB chips coming. I'm going to go with the 64 MB total. I appreciate the help from everyone!
ivnj, Yep, that manual would have been a HUGE help, I just wish the wife knew where it was, or hadnt threw it away, whichever the case was. Thanks for trying, its very much appreciated!
chris ================================================= 02-21-03, 10:10 AM vansrme Well people, I have may have finally found a program that tells a little about the motherboard that I've been trying to identify. Thanks to a post from TomGL2, I used H.Oda! to id this board, here's what it says:
MMX Unit: Not supported SSE Unit: Not supported SSE2 Unit: Not supported MMX2 Unit: Not supported 3DNow! Unit: Not supported 3DNow!+ Unit: Not supported
Hope this helps some, in case anyone was still wondering! LOL
chris 02-21-03, 11:15 AM ivnj It says Intel Pentium Processor but it still says nothing about the motherboard like ECS or ASUS or ABIT!
ivnj
02-21-03, 11:42 AM vansrme Evidently there's no way to find out that info, since it seems there's no programs out there that will identify this motherboard. I'll keep trying to find a way tho.
chris
