Hi ppl,
I'm trying to format an older WD HD, model # AC22500-00LA, 2.5 Gig, Caviar. I put the jumper on the "slave" position, then hooked it to the same ribbon the hard drive is on, hooked up the power to it, then turned it on, when booting, it recognizes the slave hard drive, but after completely booting, it doesnt show it in the "my computer" area as driveFrownx), or whatever,at all. There is no designation for it anywhere, just the usual letters assigned to the other hardware on the pc,(cdrom, cdrw, primary hd, floppy drive). Any ideas as to why this is happening? I had planned on just clicking on the drive letter and formatting it while in win98se, but cant until it shows me a letter. I was trying to do this tonight, before bed, but am not sure now if I can or not. The slave is still hooked up on my pc now. Thanks in advance!

An unpartitioned hard disk is invisible to Windows. To prepare it for use, click Start, Run, type Fdisk and press Enter. Press Y and Enter to enable large disk support.

Choose Change current fixed disk, then type 2 and press Enter to select the 2nd drive.

Choose Display partition information to verify that no partitions exist. If there are partitions, please note their types, and press Escape twice to exit Fdisk.

If no partitions exist, choose Create DOS partition.... Choose Create Primary DOS Partition, and set its size (you'll probably want 100%).

Exit Fdisk and restart Windows. You should have a new D: drive. Right-click the drive and click Format to install the file system, which makes the drive usable.
