I am having a problem with a Creative Labs Live soundcard. It worked fine for over a year and now my modem will not work. (Cannot find port)

I get an error on bootup:
“Devldr16 has caused an error, DEVCON32.DLL, Dev16 will now close”. (This message appears twice)

After doing some checking around I that Devldr16 “it provides SoundBlaster 16 emulation for DOS applications and games. Without it, your DOS games will not have any sound.” “Disabling this program, however, often gives problems with the general behavior of sound and of the Creative sound utilities on your PC.”
I also found that this error sometimes causes the modem to cease functioning.

I decided to trash the Creative Labs soundcard for another manufacturer’s sound card.

How do I completely remove all the software, drivers, and registry entries for this sound card? There is no “remove” button I am aware of.

I am running Windows ME.

Thank you.

Hi Koz:
The "Remove Hardware" Thingey is found by:

Right Click 'My Computer", select "Properties".
Then click the "Device Manager" Tab.
From next select the divece to remove &
click "Remove".

Cautionary Note: Since I'm not running ME, I can't try this on my system. To make sure this is the exact procedure.
You might want to wait for a(n):
Conformation,
Additional, or
"You're full of crap Byter" Wink
From Dwight or Tom.

Thanks Byter,

I did try that, I even removed the modem and placed it into the slot the sound card had occupied. Upon boot up it recognized the modem, installed the required software successfully, but the modem still does not work. (In device manager it says there are no conflicts)

I even went a step further Roll Eyes. I renamed all files that had a “Devldr” in the filename. Bad move there Eek. My computer had troubles booting up then. Once I got it to boot up, I renamed the files back to the original names, but I get the same error message, and the modem does not work. That is why I thought I needed to manually remove something.

If I rename only the two files that are named “Devldr16” the computer boots up with no error message, but alas the modem still does not work. Razz

Hi Koz:
You might try going to "Control Panel/Modems"
and see if something looks amiss there.
Also there's probably a "Help" button that will help you through many problems.

Best-O-luck

Thanks again Byter,
Noting looks amiss, no conflicts shown. When I went through the help button it guided me through a modem diagnostic procedure. When I attempted to see if the computer recognized the modem (It is listed in Device Manager, with no conflicts or errors) I get a message. (I am going by memory as to the exact message, but this is close)
“Cannot open port”, “modem is not installed or connected properly”.

I removed it in Device Manager and tried moving it to a couple of other available slots. Every time upon boot up it recognizes it, and installs the required software.
But the modem still does not work! Mad
