I just did something stupid. I put the wrong type of RAM into my computer. I realized what I had done and switched back to the original RAM. It had gotten warmer than it should have, but not actually hot. Now my computer won't turn on. Any suggestions?

1. Is there a light on your Motherboard?

2.If not your dead! Or your cord or outlet is dead! Or the power supply but highly unlikely!

U can get Power Supply tester at CompUSA for about $15!

Or try,

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=312979

Just plug it into an available PCI slot and when U try to power up it will beep with a code! And the manual will tell u what that menas is wrong with your computer hopefully!

If your computer makes any beeps, make sure you count how many beeps and if they are long or short beeps. These beeps are actually a code to help techs troubleshoot.
When you changes the RAM where you careful about static? Ram is very sensitive and can be killed by static very easily. You must be grounded when working with RAM. A good way to grounded if you do not have a wrist strap is by keeping on hand on the power supply at all times. Doing this keeps you at the same electrical level as the computer.
If you did handle the RAM on the carpet or placed it on/in a plastic bag, it is probably shot.

Techman - there are no beeps and the RAM isn't the problem (the RAM is now functioning just fine in a different computer). I've pretty much written that computer off as a loss (it was getting very old anyway) and plan to use the parts for my next computer. Thanks for the suggestions.

methos5000, well i have just one suggestion. take out your motherboard, look at the bottom and see if it has any type of burn marks . my old comuter died and come to find out, my cat licked some of the motherboard and he got shocked and it fried it, so check for burn marks. Sorry man thats all i can tell ya.

Just to clarify, ivnj, not all motherboards have a light diode on them to indicate they are getting power.
