One fact about answering computer questions...unless we know what system that you're using, we cannot be of any help at all. We need to know what computer Operating system that you're using, and the make/model of card reader that you're attempting to install. We need to know what type of cable connection that you're using (Serial - USB).

We want to help you with this and I hope you will reply and provide the requested information.

This page may be helpful with getting the necessary system information about your system.
Also, this Google search result page may help: Google Search

I understand that your computer will not read the CD-ROM drive disk. Is that correct? Will it read any disk except the one containing the USB driver that you're attempting to install? If you cannot read any disk, then the problem is with your CD-ROM drive. If it will read other disks, but not the driver disk, the problem must be with the CD disk. If the disk is the problem, you can download the driver for the USB card reader from the manufacturer's site.

I would suggest that you first try restarting the computer. Sometimes a restart will set things right again. If the problem persists after restart:

Try uninstalling the CD-ROM from the Hardware Device Manager, then restarting your computer. This will likely fix the problem because a new CD-ROM driver will be automatically reinstalled with Windows restart.

1. To open the hardware device manager you can right-click on the "My Computer" icon and choose "properties". Click the Device Manager tab.
2. Locate the CD-ROM drive and click the + sign to left of the entry.
3. Then select the drive and click the Remove button.
4. OK the warning dialog box and restart the computer.
5. When it starts up you should see a "New Device Found" dialog box open. It should then tell you the CD-ROM device (by name) has been found and installed.
6. If you see that, try your CD disk again; it should now work.

If there is a hardware failure of the CD-ROM drive, this procedure will not solve the problem. You will not see the "New Device Found" dialog box. If that is the case, try the CD disk anyway, since the driver may have reinstalled but the dialog box did not appear. If it still doesn't work, you may need to replace the CD-ROM unit. But before removing it I would suggest checking the cable connections to the drive unit to see if something might have worked loose. I have seen situations where the cables don't feel noticeably loose, but after checking them, the drive begins working again.

If you find you have to replace the CD-ROM drive, Google search page may be helpful with instructions.

I hope something here will help!

And you tried a restart? No change?

Is there any marking at all on the card reader that indicates a make/model number?

There should only be one CD disk. Did you receive any installation instructions with the Card Reader?

What kind of attachment are you trying to send? Is this an image file? If so, you can upload the image file to a site like http://allyoucanupload.com

Then just upload the Web address of the image file. Like this one:

http://aycu26.webshots.com/image/9465/2005186935212302947_rs.jpg

If you click the link, it will open a picture of the download of the CS881x driver download. The "x" at the end just indicates that this file will work for a variety of different model numbers.

Just a note: as I write this tonight the image file that I uploaded, then linked above is very slow to open and sometimes requires a "refresh" to get it to display. I would guess this problem is caused by ongoing server maintenance. Usually this site is very fast.
