We need to know the make/model of the wi-fi equipment, and what Operating System your computer is using. This page may help with gathering the details: Click Here

I would think you might be best served by calling or doing an online chat with the maker of the Wi-Fi equipment. For instance, if the equipment is one of these: list of wi-fi brands, then go to that company's technical support page (through their home page) and look for either a telephone number or even better, an online chat line. For instance if the router is made by Linksys, go to http://linksys.com and click on their support link. Then in the Technical Support page (like this), click on the "Live Chat".

Then provide the information asked for and connect with one their technicians. Since they have all of the needed system information, they can direct you how to set this up. I have had very good success doing this in the past with difficult connection problems.

If you cannot connect online to do this, please provide as much information about the equipment and your system and we can then give you the necessary instructions.

Thank you for your prompt reply Dwight,I purchased this router thru Computer Geeks and It is listed as "generic" and there is no mfg. name on the unit at all,Although i believe it is a linsky i cannot verify this anywhere on carton or unit, I have linked it with the dsl Modem at this time as someone else mentioned the hookup procedure, From the computer Ieee port to one of the ports on the router and from the wan port on the router back to the dsl modem and the modem is functional it seems, now i have to figure how to program it LOL I also purchased 2 USB port wireless connectors from Geeks but I havent been able to connect it to my laptop since the shouders are too wide, i will have to get and extension cable to connect. I am operating a 2.4Ghz computer with win xp and 512mb of memory, The programing of the router seems complicated to me since i am a very novice i will have to wait til i can hook up the usb units to get any urther along, if anyone has any other tips to help i would greatly appreciate it and thank you again for you help...Joe

Is the router one of these? picture or can you find the wireless router fo rme? Click here

"I have linked it with the dsl Modem at this time..."

By this I assume that you mean the computer is connected to the router via a cable. Is that correct?

I further assume that you wish to connect the computer to the DSL through the router wirelessly? It is now connected with a cable (wire) but you prefer to connect wirelessly. Is that correct?

What type of computer (make/model).

Does the computer have a wireless receiver of some type? Something like this if the computer is a laptop without a built in wireless card.

I'm sorry to keep bugging you for more information, but you must understand that there literally thousands of different possible connections and without details all I can offer is generalities.

Look for a port on the back of your router labeled "Uplink" or "WAN". That goes to your DSL modem. Any other port goes to the network plug/port on your computer(s). Forget the IEEE alphabet soup--ethernet cable between modem and router and router and computer is all you need.

In (assuming Windows) Network properties, ensure TCP/IP is installed and in use and bound to your network connector. If you have a laptop with both wired and wireless support, determine which one you want to use and disable the other or set up two hardware profiles.

Thank you gents for your answers:My desktop to which i am connecting the router is an MSI 2.4ghz system with 512 mb of memory.I have connected the router as described by jkp and the dsl modem is fully operational with this setup,I cannot check the wireless part until i hook up a Gigafast Mini Wireless USB adapter i bought for the laptop, the gigafast adapter will not go in the usb port on the laptop because its too wide, I have ordered a 3 ft extension cord for the usb port in the hopes that i can plug in the cord to the usb on the laptop and then from the end of the cord place the mini adapter and hope it will work.I tried placing a 4 usb adapter in the usb port and plugged in the wireless adapter but received the message the 4 port adapter didn't have enough power to run the Mini Wireless USB adapter (very dissapointing indeed) now i am in the hopes the extension usb cord will work and get me rolling, again thank you Dwight and jkp for your advice and answers...Joe
