I have a a Visionner One Touch scanner. It hasn't ever worked 100% in my opinion, since most times you have to work very hard to get it to even scan, much less save or edit a photo.
I was going to try re-loading the software for it, which we've done three times, but thought I would also check here.
I've heard two stories - first, that the Visioneer is a great piece of hardware, and second, that it's a lemon.
Anyone else had any experiences? I've been thinking of just going out and getting a new scanner, since they aren't too cost prohibitive any longer and I'm just tired of the headaches.
Any recommendations for a quality and reliable brand?
My own scanner is the same brand and it was a nightmare to get it to work - the company blamed the USB port and I blamed them right back for not stating that problems might exist. Now it works on exactly one computer and not the others, but it does have good, easy to use software. If yours is USB and the computer is a couple years old it may not be solvable - though hold onto it if you can't find someone to buy it from you.
I dislike the software with the HP scanners, but have to admit that they seem to be the "standard" others measure toward and their customer support was excellent - only problem was a tough switch that on initial bootup wasn't registering that it was unlocked - once that was resolved it worked great (have worked with 3 HPs without trouble.)
What I would really suggest is going to a website such as epinions and find out what other everyday people think of their own brands - magazines and technicians cannot understand the difficulties we mere mortals face with such hardware.
We have a Microtek ScanMaker 4800 and I love it! It has options to do a simple scan or an advanced one where you can really play with the quality of the image. (I have a lot of fun with that!) (I suppose any good scanner has those options though - I am SO still learning!) We also have a transparency adapter - a separate attachment to scan slides and negatives.
My son installed ours, so I don't know if that part was difficult or not. But as for operation, I'll put it his way - I can use it!

I have several clients who have the Visionner One Touch scanner and they seem to work fine. I did have one that had what sounds like the same problem that you're experiencing.
I struggled with it for some time, then called the technical support line. The lady tech had me manually delete a number of files, then reinstall the USB driver. This solved the problem and it has worked fine ever since. I thought the tech was extremely good, very patient and knowledgeable.
You can get the technical support phone number on their website if you don't see it in the help files.
I hope this helps!

I have a Visioneer also, and at first I had the same problem...I was using a regular cable hookup to the computer like I use for the printer...and found out that the printer and scanner were competing against each other for signal...Then I switched from that to a USB cable for the Visioneer and everything is hunky dory now... My visioneer is working really great now, and am very pleased with it... No, your scanner is not a lemon...Just not properly hooked up...Do what Dwight said, and contact the help line....

I've been recomending the Visioneer One Tough 8920 USB here for ever! Which one do U have GIZ?
Mine has no problems! They don't support any cable except their own and the USB ports on the back of the computer builtin! But my XP was to blame and not the unit! It works great now, even with a hub! The only minor hard thing was the software but after a few calls I got the hang of it! And U can't beat the 4800x4800 Optical DPI Resolution! The film transparenvy is not so good but HP is no better! U have to spend a 1000 for that! But the rest is awsome and no more pains for me since reinstalling XP!
So with a few minor tiny liveable exceptions no lemon here! The best top of the line scanner 150 can buy unless U spend 5 or 600!
