Its a lot harder for an unauthorized user to gain access to your system if you change the password regularly. (Particularly if you are in a corporate setting dealing with sensitive information) So, the expiration by default is "for your own good". That said, it is possible to disable password expiration. Just be sure you pick a STRONG password. Hope this was helpful!

jr and JWooden, I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but I have a similar set up as regards passwords where I work. Ours expire after so many logins, which works out to about a month, too. Then we have to change them. I usually do this by adding a number to the end, but it is really frustrating. Anyway, an override program like the one above, doesn't work on our system at work, basically because our IT department wants us to change passwords for security purposes. If you find the link here doesn't work you may have to speak to our employer's IT department. But my guess is, it's a blanket policy decision, done more to satisfy bureaucracy than for any security issue.
