I got a new Dell computer for my office this semester and every 30 days I get a message saying the password is expiring. How do I adjust it to keep the password I have and eliminate the message?

Its a lot harder for an unauthorized user to gain access to your system if you change the password regularly. (Particularly if you are in a corporate setting dealing with sensitive information) So, the expiration by default is "for your own good".

That said, it is possible to disable password expiration. Just be sure you pick a STRONG password.

Hope this was helpful!

Thank you, JWooden. It's a private office, and the password I use would likely confound everyone.

BTW, I understand it was your birthday on the 14th...98 years old! Congrats. I still remember the glory days of UCLA basketball. GO BRUINS!

jr and JWooden,
I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but I have a similar set up as regards passwords where I work. Ours expire after so many logins, which works out to about a month, too. Then we have to change them. I usually do this by adding a number to the end, but it is really frustrating.
Anyway, an override program like the one above, doesn't work on our system at work, basically because our IT department wants us to change passwords for security purposes. If you find the link here doesn't work you may have to speak to our employer's IT department. But my guess is, it's a blanket policy decision, done more to satisfy bureaucracy than for any security issue.
