Here is a search I made up for you to look through http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=graphics+cards+%2440&btnG=Google+Sear
I have set the target price @$40 but there are some priced as low as $32 (No low spec cards)
But from what I can see your $50 will buy you a decent card but I can't see you spending that! OK Wink
I'd go for a Geforce card they can handle Most Games
Question? How big is your monitor and do you know what resolution it is running at now? If you can run your monitor @1024x 768 and 32 bit color that is a good target to aim at Smile
Older cards(and Monitors) struggle to get 800x600 and 16bit colors or 256 colors normally happy at 640x640 (256 colors) going back to the 1990's they would be running at 320x320 (16 colors) No 3Dcards
Another thing for you to update is something called Directx This handles the housekeeping on the graphics Card The Latest Version is V9.0,but if we can get you a card that runs V8.0? that will be near top spec.Cool(Unless you want to shift a lot of graphics?)
