I have a very old (Compaq Deskpro EN) (NLX P2)]. It is a Compaq, it was just missing the HD, RAM, and PROCESSOR.

So I can't tell what kind it is or the model form that method. And I cant boot-up cuz it says (1782 Disk Controller Faliure).

How else can I tell the model of the unit or MB? My MOM improperly shut it down and now it won't boot even if I switch IDE cables.

But it was working for a few weeks so it can't die that fast. SO maybe a BIOS change. But I have to identify it first. Maybe somebody knows a list of all the (NLX P2) systems Compaq had?

Hmmmmm.... Google & ATW only had 1 result for that model number: A site that was selling the machine - no specs, just the fact that it is a compaq. Mad

However, Doing a search on the error code (1782) yielded:

- One person siad it could be a boot sector virus. See: http://www.computerseasy.com/messages/527.html

- Another site says to replace the HD and check the BIOS See: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/compaq/faq/comppost.htm

- HP|Compaq Says check the diagnostics See: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/techpubs/customer_advisories/8361.html

- Another site says to replace the HDD Controller (which is on the motherboard). Frown See: http://www.ts-consulting.net/compaq%20post%20error%20codes.htm

I hope this helps a little.

Fdd and Keyboard are working so maybe I can run the Diagnostics thing after all. But I still need a link to download it.

My comp had 2 overheating crashes while attempting to reply to this topic Mad
3rd time lucky? Roll Eyes
Have a peek at the motherboard and find the make and model (will be in big letters somewhere prominent) Knowing this info may let you search for components that will fit & work?
May end up with a "Mongrel" machine but it'll be a runner? Maybe a better spec than the original?
