As many of you have microphones webcams and VOIP service and most people cannot get anything out of them after installation Frown
In this Posting I shall show you how to setup your Computer for you, to talk online to other People without Getting a Faint response or Annoying feedback Noise (Can hear it either end of the link!) Mad
Be aware that what I say here is a starting Point and it will take trial and error to get the best out of your setup (May have to "fine tune" OK?)

To work...
The whole Job will take just 5 minutes to complete
First, plug in your Microphone...

2) Do Not open the Setup program for the IM or Microphone set up
2 A) Instead open the Control Panel and Locate Sounds and Audio Devices. Open this link.

3) Select the Voice Tab
3 A) Click Volume on the Voice Playback section and set all the slider controls to maximum other than Wave which should be set at 1 notch above zero also 3D which is useless that can be set to 1 notch also NOTE Click the Advanced button and Untick the 3d enhancement Box If ticked the Volume will Decrease! if the "3D " slider is Raised! (Bug?) Confused
3 B) The Voice Recording section needn't be touched, except to max out all the sliders
NOTE All the sliders Do appear on the Main Volume Control Panel. Some are maybe hidden...Display by clicking Options>Properties...(Advanced Properties can be ticked too)

Now To the 2nd part Hear what it sounds like?

Do not close this window Look down for a button labelled Test Hardware...

This leads to the Sound Hardware check...
1) Press" Next" to run the checker (20 seconds)
2) If all is well the Microphone test page will appear ...Instructions are on the page
2 A) There are 2 sliders on this page the Recording slider represents what is being broadcast to the speakers or the other end of the link...So long as it does not stay in the Red (and you can make out what is being said) then No action is needed otherwise you will have to adjust several sliders in the Volume Control Panel
2 B) You'll notice the other (Playback) slider is greyed out to access it click on "Next"
This slider is often at the root of Many sound related Issues if Set wrong!
So...What is the way to getting this to work right
The answer is Trial and error
All I can point you to is a rough setting that will work for most set-ups But may want a slight tweak in the direction I've indicated
And there is NO default or reset for this Frown

The Magic Method: (with things to watch out for....)
Despite there being 10 notches on the Slider Raising the slider increases Feedback! And we Don't want that! But What happens if we pull the slider all the way down?
Surely the feedback diminishes? Answer...Yes
And... The entire sound card is Muted!! Red Face Mad

Is hard to spot ...You'd think the Master volume slide mute was on Or B) Speakers switched off ect Confused

This setting will Keep the volume "high" and Keep the Feedback down
The setting I suggest using is 2 notches high on the Playback slider
and 3 notches at most....Can take it down to 1 notch but I'm not certain where the Volume will Mute entirely .

Everybody's computer has different points where this cut-off point will come into play!

The critical setting is that Fine OK? Roll Eyes
