I have a 1st generation Apple ipod that I need to connect to my computer. My computer is Windows XP and only has USB ports, no Firewire port. Is there such an adapter that will let me connect a Firewire device on one end to a USB port on the other? I need to purchase a cable asap. Thanks!

But I don't have a dock for my ipod, so that connector won't work I don't think. I appreciate you trying though.

Actually, a Firewire card might be cheaper than a Firewire -> USB cable. The last I checked, you can get a Firewire card from Wal-Mart or the like, for around $15-$20.

Sarah,

The cable that bedstor listed will connect directly to the base of the IPod. However, it is cheaper directly through Apple:

Apple iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable

Northwind, there is no connection on the base of my 1st generation ipod. That is why I'm having so much trouble. I need to know if they make such a thing as a cable with just a usb connection on one end and a firewire connection on the other. Thanks for your help.

Firewire and USB are two completely different things. I don't think it's possible to interchange the two. Firewire runs at a different speed, and is a completely different transfer protocol (it requires drivers).

The only way this is going to happen, is like I previously mentioned.. a Firewire card.
