I'm looking for a service that provides internet access to someone who has a laptop and drives all over the United States. He (my dad) has a top of the line sony laptop, but we are from a very small area and cannot find internet service. HELP!!!

Something like MSN might be your best bet. It is in most parts of the country. I like BellSouth, but it is not in very many states.

The same question you posted in Ask Jeeves about 2 months back. I answered it then, but you apparently missed the answer. I have AOL and can connect in about 80% the country. If that is not an option, have your Dad contact his cell phone provider. They can provide the necessary cell phone. I use two methods with mine. AOL for my family E Mail pickup and the Verizon Mobile net to connect to Internet Explorer. The cell provider will have all the information.

My daughter has the same problem. She lives in a small town, and the only internet provider (that is not long distance) is the local phone company. As I said before, the only choice is probably a nationwide provider like MSN or AOL. Neither is perfect, but I prefer MSN over AOL. In each town your father goes into, he will have to change the dialup number to the local one. That is easy to do. I have a Compaq internet machine that I have to do the same thing with if I go some place. I use MSN on it, and it is available in most places.

Netzero and Juno offer nationwide free dial-up internet access.

Both offer a premium service for $10 per month.

All you need is a phone jack to dial and know what the hotel/house phone number is (to search for dial-up numbers).

I hope this is of some help. smile

Slingshot offers a prepaid internet access service that gives you a choice of local or toll-free dialup numbers. (Toll-free number use uses more prepaid minutes than local number use) Plus no monthly bill, pay as you go!

You can buy a prepaid disc at Radio Shack, Staples, CompUSA, or at www.slingshot.com)
Hope this helps too! wink

These are all great answers, but my dad is a truck driver and doesn't stay in motels while on the road. Therefore, he doesn't have phone jacks. Any other suggesstions?

Without a phone jack, the only possible way is wireless internet/mobile phone emails, neither of which are all that trustworthy seeing as wireless internet requires you to frequently upload from the internet

Please, carefully read the responses to your question. In my first response I clearly stated that you can connect to the internet with a laptop via a cell phone hookup. Once again, have your Dad contact his cell phone service provider. They will be happy to get him setup to use his cell phone for internet connection confused

I've been with Earthlink for a long time now, and I am very happy with their services for dial-up.I travel often (with my laptop) and have not yet found anyplace that a local dial-up server is not available. They do offer wireless internet connections, and I have heard that it is as good as their land-based services.
Wireless Internet Magazine may have some more good information.

When trucking I had my laptop and used the Park & View services at the truckstops. You dont have to pay for the TV part, you can just get the computer part. It's been a year since I used this. Does he drive in areas where there aren't that many Park & Views? This was comfort at it's best, just set in the truck and Surf away!
