I understand that your computer will not read the CD-ROM drive disk. Is that correct? Will it read any disk except the one containing the USB driver that you're attempting to install? If you cannot read any disk, then the problem is with your CD-ROM drive. If it will read other disks, but not the driver disk, the problem must be with the CD disk. If the disk is the problem, you can download the driver for the USB card reader from the manufacturer's site.
I would suggest that you first try restarting the computer. Sometimes a restart will set things right again. If the problem persists after restart:
Try uninstalling the CD-ROM from the Hardware Device Manager, then restarting your computer. This will likely fix the problem because a new CD-ROM driver will be automatically reinstalled with Windows restart.
1. To open the hardware device manager you can right-click on the "My Computer" icon and choose "properties". Click the Device Manager tab.
2. Locate the CD-ROM drive and click the + sign to left of the entry.
3. Then select the drive and click the Remove button.
4. OK the warning dialog box and restart the computer.
5. When it starts up you should see a "New Device Found" dialog box open. It should then tell you the CD-ROM device (by name) has been found and installed.
6. If you see that, try your CD disk again; it should now work.
If there is a hardware failure of the CD-ROM drive, this procedure will not solve the problem. You will not see the "New Device Found" dialog box. If that is the case, try the CD disk anyway, since the driver may have reinstalled but the dialog box did not appear. If it still doesn't work, you may need to replace the CD-ROM unit. But before removing it I would suggest checking the cable connections to the drive unit to see if something might have worked loose. I have seen situations where the cables don't feel noticeably loose, but after checking them, the drive begins working again.
If you find you have to replace the CD-ROM drive,
Google search page may be helpful with instructions.
I hope something here will help!
