When starting up my computer I get the Message (RUNDLL) Error loading C:\windows\system32\nefuwipi.dll - The specified module could not be found.

What does this mean?

PS: I'm running Windows Proff. 2000/IExp.

That file has been known to be associated with the "Vundo" trojan horse. Symptoms associated with Vundo include, inability to run task manager, Antivirus and Firewall software mysteriously becomes disabled. The trojan may have been included with P2P file sharing software, or have been installed through a security hole in IE6.

Symantec (makers of Norton) provide a free tool for removing the trojan horse. Please run this tool ASAP.

If your antivirus software is not up to date, or your subscription expired, you need to take swift action to protect your computer against other threats which may be lurking on your PC. Most antivirus software bundled with new PCs are on a 60-day trial basis, and they no longer provide meaningful protection once the free trial expires.

In the event that your subscription is expired, or you lack AV protection altogether, AVG is a free antivirus package that you can use.

Once you have your antivirus software up-to-date, run a full system scan to remove any other pests which may be lurking on your computer.

At this point, run Windows Update and install all necessary critical updates. It may take a while, so get it started, then go have dinner.

On another note, Windows 2000 does not support IE7 or IE8 which include many new security features. If you are still using Internet Explorer 6 (or worse, 5), I would recommend that you use Firefox 3 or Opera for your web surfing needs. (Both work on Win2K)

Hope this was helpful!
