first and formost, I am new to this site and just wanted to say hello to all!!!

secondly, i have a serious problem. I think my dell laptop is dead!! My issue is somewhat similar to georgia85's issue. however, i do not think it is dead due to the battery. someone please HELP!!

Do you have a way to plug the laptop in to see if an alternative power source will run it?

If it DOES turn on via AC rather than battery, then it possibly could be the battery. If not, other reasons are likely part of the problem.

yes. i tried to run it with the ac adapter still nothing

Try removing the battery BEFORE you plug in to your power... sometimes, a battery can be internally shorted, causing your power supply to drop in voltage, hence, no power up...

Try the solution we did with Georgia's laptop, unplug the laptop from the outlet, then hold the "On" button down for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and try it.

If none of the previous suggestion work (and please try them first), it might be a broken AC electric connection at the computer plug in point. I have seen that occur in a Sony Vaio and it was initially mistaken for a "fried" mother board. Finally, a simple soldering job fixed it.

also check with an volt meter the power cord to see if any power is coming out from it.

I have done all that was posted and still no luck. I am getting power into the laptop but it won't turn on. I don;t think it is a battery issue. I am sorry I should have given alittle more details about the problem. what happened was the laptop was turned off but i had my ethernet cable plugged into the laptop, it was lightening outside and the next thing i saw was spark coming thru the ethernet plug port.the power in the house did not go out but my stereo went off. it came back on a few days later but the laptop would not. someone said that it could be that the laptop got fried but when i turn it on the power and battery lites come on but then they go off and the battery lite flash green. pleeeese help

yep yep you should have said that alright . its fried. may be you can salvage the hard drive into another one but that one is gone gone gone.
