I have a desktop set up with a DSL connection, Arescom exterior modem, in my kitchen that plugs into a phone jack (one line) in my living room, about 10 ft. away. What I want to do is tie my laptop into this system so I can go online in the other room. Is this possible, and if so, how can I do it?

Catty roll eyes confused

It sounds like what you need to do is make (or ask someone who knows how, to make) a longer Internet cord that can be stretched into the other room, and connect to the modem with your laptop.

Unfortunately, without getting another phone line, or a different kind of modem, you won't be able to have the Internet open on both computers at the same time.

Thank you both. I will not want to have both open at the same time. A router, huh? I'll go to Radio Shack and get one.

Thanks again!

Catty (who is glad to know she can do this!) big grin

But that's the whole point of a router and a hub to have both on at the same time! Otherwise U might as well manually switch it form one machine to the other as I see no devcice to do that!

Thank you all. I have XP on my laptop, and when I tried to connect it up, the Internet Connection Wizard said I have to have XP on both. So it seems the easiest way out is just to purchase XP so I can use Outlook and forget the network. The router at Radio Shack was $56!

Catty (who will go back to the old way) eek
