Hi I am now looking at changing my motherboard and cpu.
I have decided that I wish to have a AMD athlon chip (Barton)??
and an asus motherboard. What I want to know is what would be the best combination for my use.
I have 2 hard drives one with xp home and the other with xp pro.
I do a fair bit of programming etc and so need a system that will be fairly quick.
At the moment I am running a 1ghz pentium with 1.5gb of ram at 133mhz but find this extremely slow as I have built my system up since purchase.
I definetly think the amd chip and asus mobo will make a good combo but I just don't know what chip or mobo will be the best for me

What is the Motherboard model number Koicarp?
If we have that info we may be able to determine if a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ GHZ is a straight drop in?
They are getting quite cheap now (about the 60 to 70 pounds price range)
I'm running this chip with 1 gig ram (Chaintech CT-7VLJ1 motherboard) and it copes easily with what I throw at it
Combined with a Geforce FX 5200 graphics card. running Dfx 9.0
Important number is what the "Bus" speed is the higher the faster...mine runs a FSB speed of 200-266 mhz but is running at the lower speed (Switched in BIOS) until I fit a AMD XP 2600+ later this year..
Then it'll howl along!! Eek Cool Wink
Here is the spec page for it:

Thanks Bedstorfor your Input

Having had a look around will be going for the Asus A7V8X mobo + AMD 2600 Barton chip + DDR ram 333 mhz.

seems to be fairly good value.

If you have any further comments I would be Interested in reading
