Does anybody know the difference between DVDR, DVDRW and DVD+R, DVD+RW? What is the + for?

Check out this page for comparisons between the standards you mentioned, as well as the DVD-RAM standard.

Basically, they are different standards. The + doesn't stand for anytihng in particular, it is just to differentiate it from the other standard. DVD-R and DVD-RW are more common. DVD+R and DVD+RW are less common, but may have some advantages in the future.
