I went to yahoo games and downloaded a game and it totally messed up my laptop settings.

What happened is - the game started and my computer saw that the resolution settings weren't optimal and for some reason, the screen started blinking, going blank, then it came back and my res was totally messed up. I was able to fix that back to the standard resolution, I uninstalled the bad game but now, for some odd reason, there are "multiple monitors" set up on my computer.

I go to Display settings in the control panel, I go to "settings" and under "Display" at the pull down, there are only two options and they are the same - 1. Multiple Monitors on 2650 and 2. Multiple Monitors on 2650.

I can see my original desktop when I shut down and start up, but it switches me to this alternate desktop settings after I log in - I can tell because I have a screen saver on the other set up.

I can't find anywhere in the control panel where I can turn this off. All I can find is a way to put Monitor 1 into the foreground over monitor 2 and I'm not sure that really does anything either.

I need this fixed soon because I've got a lot to do today using the computer. It does work but it's operating in slow motion with all my programs.

I suggest you try uninstalling the monitor to see if that solves the problem. Do that in System Properties (pathway at the bottom of this post). Uninstall it, then restart the computer and it will automatically find and reinstall the proper monitor driver file.

If this doesn't do the trick, I wold suggest reinstalling the display adapter to see if that will correct this.

First open the System Properties and look at the information about your display adapter; what make and model number.
Then, go that manufacturer's site and download the driver for that graphic card.

Then open the system properties window and right click on the display adapter and uninstall it.

Restart the computer. It is likely the adapter driver will reinstall itself automatically (Windows XP), but if not, then you can use your new downloaded driver to install.

Also, take note of the product version number. If the downloaded one is a later version you may prefer to install it even if the WinXP version installed automatically. You can do this in the System Property window, Hardware tab / Device Manager / display adapter properties / Driver tab / Update button, or (in many cases) by just opening the new driver file.

Right-click on My Computer and choose "Properties" to open the System Proprieties window. Choose Hardware/Device Manager to uninstall/reinstall device drivers.
