Am I being cynical, or are the promoters looking at the age and likely disposable income, as well as the sentiment, of people who 'grew up' with Leonard Cohen, before setting the ticket prices?
The prices can't be high because of the cost of putting on the show !
I still love Simon and Garfunkel's music today, more than 20 years after I saw them in concert. Indeed, their music was no longer chart topping in the early 80's when I saw them, and it wasn't until the mid 80's that Paul Simon had his huge success with Graceland. Although the songs of Simon and Garfunkel became anthems for a generation, they endure today. I think the music has a timeless quality. I'd go and see them again, if I had the chance This article was written by James Taylor in 2004, and sums up the duo's music well:
Well, I saw the Leonard Cohen show, "Live in London" this week on the CBC. Excellent. Cohen is 74 now, and still sounds great.
Not for a nanosecond in this 24-song concert does the septuagenarian folk music icon – grinning craftily from beneath a wide-brimmed fedora, like a Depression-era Montreal gangster sniffing a kill – miss a cue, a beat, a note, a word, or the opportunity to impress an adoring audience with his wit and bravado. Leonard Cohen: Live In London
Ticket prices aren't too bad here. They start at about $50 to see him in Hamilton, Ontario.
The London concert was released on CD and DVD on 31 March. The review below (it was mailed to me - I don't know who wrote it so can't cite the author) sums up how well the tour was received:
"In 2008 Leonard Cohen embarked on his first tour in 15 years. Quickly recognized as musical folklore in the making, 29 of the original dates sold out almost immediately, leaving fans and critics alike hailing the show as a once in a lifetime experience. By popular demand, the Canadian/UK tour was extended and by the end of that year it had reached 84 markets worldwide, selling more than 700,000 tickets. The Live In London release fully captures and recreates the extraordinary show from that tour that earned Cohen more than 80 five-star reviews for his performances."
It's available on DVD as well. I wish I'd booked to see him at the Paris Olympia as it's a smaller venue than the O2 in London where this was filmed, But I'm about to order it nonetheless!

Lucky you, dg! As a result of your post, I've just (five minutes ago) found out that he's coming back to Paris in July (thanks for that and booked to see him at the Bercy Stadium in Paris, which holds about 14,000 people. The most expensive seats had sold out, but I still paid 133.50 euros, which is 220.50 Canadian dollars!!

Good for you, Colin. I must admit, I'm tempted. All I have on my social calendar is "High School Musical" the stage version in May with my youngest daughter. Is that sad, or what? I need to start doing adult things. But until I get my act together, I'll live vicariously through all of you. So let us know what you think of it.
