Has anyone heard this yet? I think its brilliant, a real classic U2, bring out a new sound at the beginning of a new decade, just like they did with Achtung Baby.
Quote from the song:
Hello, hello, Not a place called Vertigo, It's everything I wish I didn't know, but you don't give me something I can feel!
Yeah, I heard it on the radio a couple days ago. Sounds like it would be very please for U2 fans and I'd say it seems like another quality U2 song. They don't seem to make that much stuff that I find myself liking though. I don't think they're really doing anything different than any other band I like. I've just only heard a few songs by them that were made with melodies that happened to really do anything for me. And this again isn't one of them.

I get the impression that they're trying to stay safe with their listeners by just making the kind of songs that listeners seem to really like. This one sounds a lot like stuff from their 2001 album which was said to be a return to their most fan friendly songs; hard, raw rock, radio friendly songs. However, in making that album, it seems like they narrowed themselves down to that particular sound and this song seems to show they're just continuing that.
Anyone else notice that?

I love Vertigo! I like a lot of their songs, but this is the most I've liked one since Elevation! (Yeah, I like the way they count at the beginning too! )

City Of Blinding Lights is definitely the best on How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. The piano bit coupled with the great guitar just addicted me to it the first time I ever heard it.
Am I alone in thinking U2 are absolutely over-rated? They're a pretty average rock band from what I have heard, not the ground-breaking phenomenon that a hell of a lot of people seem to think they are. Obviously that's just my opinion, but that's what art is all about isn't it? My favourite track of theirs is 'Angel Of Harlem', it sounds like the old soul music that I love so much! I certainly don't think they're as phenominal as Queen or The Rolling Stones etc. Yet so many people reckon they are???

A lot of people hate them, its true - but if they are so bad as people sem to think, why are they one of the most sucessful bands in history?
The Elevation tour was the top-grossing tour of 2001 Vertigo is on its way to become the top-grossing tour of this year. The Joshua Tree - I've never seen it lower than the fifth greatest album of all time. Achtuing baby, Zooropa, and Pop - give those a listen and see if they are stuick in a mold when compared with ATYCLB and HTDAAB.
BTW, Elevation album = crap. Elevation single (as on Tomb Raider DVD) = sheer brilliance!
And blam, AOH is truly a great song! Its sadly overlooked most of the time though.
