Another concert for the victims of Katrina and the list of celebrities went on and on. I was really impressed with Neil Young's song called "When God Made Me"; here are the lyrics:

WHEN GOD MADE ME

Was he thinking about my country,
or the colour of my skin?
Was he thinking about my religion,
and the way I worshipped him?
Did he create just me in his image,
or every living thing?

When God made me.
When God made me.

Was he planning only for believers,
or for those who just had faith?
Did he envision all wars
that were fought in his name?
Did he say there was only one way
to be close to him?

When God made me.
When God made me.

Did he give me the gift of love
to say who I could choose?

When God made me.
When God made me.
When God made me.

Did he give me the gift of voice
so some could silence me?
Did he give me the gift of vision
not knowing what I might see?
Did he give me the gift of compassion
to help my fellow man?

When God made me.
When God made me.
When God made me.

You hit it on the head again, Neil, bravo!

You know, I have never really been a fan of Neil Young...( I can't stand his voice)

But you are right...he hit the nail on the head with that song.

I didn't watch that concert, and I haven't heard this song, but the lyrics are great! I really like and agree with the way Neil Young thinks...he's made a lot of meaningful music over the years, through Buffalo Springfield; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; and as a solo artist...and he's had the talent to be able to place his messages in songs that are just plain musically good, songs in the folk and harder-rock styles that people can enjoy on many levels (not just for the lyrical content).

What are some of your other favorite Neil Young lyrics? Over the years, Certain lines from "Keep On Rockin' In the Free World" have frequently come to my mind when I think of the compassionate conservatives and their disdain for and indifference toward the "lower classes" -- lines such as "I don't feel like Satan but I am to them," "There's one more kid who will never go to school, never get to fall in love, never get to be cool," and "We got a thousand points of light for the homeless man, We got a kinder, gentler machine-gun hand."

More about Neil Young.
