I believe their only song was called "free". They came out in the late 90's. I'd say between 96-98. Their name, I think, had something to do with outer space or something like that. Can anyone help?

Hi BengalPride. Welcome to Answerpool. Smile

Do you remember any of the lyrics?

What genre of music was it? (rap, rock, punk etc...)

Was it popular? Did they play it on the radio often? Was it overplayed or did you only hear it a few times?

Was it a female or male band?

We need a little more information to help us find it for you. Anything else you can remember would be helpful. Smile

I actually heard this song today on the radio.

Is this it? Closer to Free by The BoDeans.

It came out in 1993, becoming a major 90s song after being the Party of Five theme song.

No it wasn't the Bodeans. It was a rock song but not fast kinda slow in a way. It was a male rock band. It was late 90's. I'm trying to remember as much as I can. I'm almost positive the song was called just "free".

Oh! I think I've got it.

Is it Free by Train?

Train had a small hit with this in 1998 off their self-titled album. They didn't have much of a face yet with this album, but the singles from it established them pretty well in the music world.

No that's not it either. I think they had two words to their name. I also think one or both of the words weren't ordinary words. They had some kind of outer space name or something. This was the only song I heard from them. It is an easy listening rock song. Not a ballad but slower rock sound.

Maybe it was Big Hot Sun (they had a 1996 album w/ a track "Free" on it).

Spacehog was the band I thought of, too, when she said space. They do have a song called Captain Freeman, but it doesn't sound like her description.

So Bengal...do you remember where you heard the song? Was it on the radio or TV, or perhaps somewhere on the internet?

Another band who has a famous song titled Free is Vast. Space is vast. But it's also a pretty heavy song and you said it was light.

THAT'S IT!!!! It's Vast. I just downloaded it and knew right off the bat. Wow, was my mind out of it. I kept thinking it had that "space" name to it. I do that sometimes. Like when you try and think of someones name and you're confident that it starts with a P then you find out it's actually a C or something.
I saw the video once or twice but I used to hear on a station later at night. One of those songs that they play alot for a while then just quit playing it altogether.
Thanks everyone for your help. This was really driving me crazy.

P.S. I'm a male.

Oh by the way, I meant that it was light as in it's a rock song but not a fast headbanging kinda rock song. I love my Rob Zombies and Metallicas but the speed of this kind of music is what I can sit back and really enjoy.

Ahhh!!! I'm even feeling your relief. Well, at least you were right about the song title. We never would have found it if you didn't know that at least. And for the record, the song came out in 2000, the sophmore album. Vast has a few songs that people recognize but don't realize who they are by. It happened to me for Touched, which you've probably heard, too.

I definitely know what you mean. You feel like something was like something, but actually you're just remembering pieces of it wrong. I'll be trying to think of some one's name and I'll never remember because I tell myself I think I remember it as starting with certain letters, but it's actually a different letter. Woops, and sorry about the gender thing. I kind of see what you mean about not being as hard as metal, but still hard. You're just comparing it relative to metal.

Anyway, glad to finally get it answered. Welcome to Answerpool.

Woops, and the name is actually officially spelt like an acronym. As far as I know, it stands for Visual Audio Sensory Theater, as that's the name of the debut album.
