I am looking to purchase a new knife for camping, hunting etc. Can you please advise what you think is best brand to buy and why.
Any help you can give to help make up my mind would be appreciated. ++++++++ 06-05-02, 07:21 PM DoctorBob I think a good knife to start with would be a Kershaw ! I have one that has three blades , a fish filet , saw , and hunting blade they all use the same handle so there is no need to carry more than one knife ! big grin

06-20-02, 10:54 AM game42r42 My only suggestion on knives is don't buy one of a size that has no pratical use. I remember my first knife fit onto the belt w/sheath. First time mother nature called, she got the knife and sheath, so much for that style. A small knife will do a lot of different things. The tough part comes in keeping an edge on the knife so you can use it. Most modern knives take the best edge with glass or ceramic - don't always hold the edge as long as some of the early Steel knives. I use $35.00 buck one blade knives and they do everything I want and they fit in the pocket or into one of those sheath's if you tie it on real good................lol

As previously mentioned, Kershaw is a good brand name to go by. Their knives are of very good quality, and are not incredibly expensive. However, most of my expeirince comes from Buck and Gerber knives. (I have one of each.) One was given to me as a gift, the other I bought for myself. Both are very easy to open and close with one hand, which is a feature I appreciate because I have only one hand. I am growing a little more fond of the Gerber, though, because it is officially an "assisted open" knife and has a sort of double safety feature that keeps it locked in either position.
