DG, we have no ability to delete our posts. All we can do here, is "edit" within the time period allowed, not delete completely.
Whatever we do, it will still show we have posted.

The X at the top right is only to close that screen. Obviously, if you close the screen when you are first posting a response, you are not deleting it; You aqe never posting it. That is why I said you can't delete a post you haven't made yet.

Since I was made a moderator whenever the Trivia forum started (2002?), I don't remember what the screen was like before I started moderating. For me, the Delete button is in the lower left of the screen, and clearly says "Delete". I know that others have been able to delete responses in the past. But you are saying that you have no Delete button at all. Have you ever had one?

(I've just finished reading the entire owner's manual, and found no reference to a Delete button. But that means little since

a) it also neglects to mention many other things

and

b) it is naturally full of terms and definitions that mean nothing to me.

I also looked where I thought the controls should be for this function, but found nothing. But looking in the Control Panel is like searching for a very small object hidden in a very large building. Every screen has more screens branching out. If I get lost in there, who is volunteering to come and get me out?)

No, never. I always wanted one..well not that badly.
Once, in my early days here, I dreamed of having one. It was a totally unsatisfying dream, because I ran out of editing time, after saying things I shouldn't have. Big Grin

Well, on second thoughts, it's not THAT big a deal, I think we'll manage without a delete button. Smile

I just tested the "delete" option. If you hit the edit button, it gives you the option to "delete this post"; this must be done within the 20 minute limit to edit posts.

Mea Culpa! Just got off the phone with DG, and apparently we get different screens! Working on it!

Thanks SR,
But it's actually not a big deal to me, although it may be important to others, I concede.

I kind of like it here in fur and feathers with Jenny and Ritz, that's all, and had got nice and comfortable. Could you bring me a glass of wine? Smiledg

Yes, dg, we tend to be friendly, do we not? When I see that threads are becoming ugly I tend to secede from that area. Once insults start to be being traded, one can be fairly sure that the trading of further useful and valuable information is more or less over.
Jenny, do Tom & his dad use very different equipment for their coarse & game fishing activities?

I have just tried to access the 'delete' button for this bit of writing after posting it. I do not any longer have the option to 'delete', only to edit.

Ritz, as far as I know it's just the bait that is different. But I really haven't a clue. They use sweetcorn, bread and kidney beans as well as maggots etc. They fish for carp, tench, perch, gudgeon in the ponds and trout on the river or reservoir.
DG, red wine or white? Big Grin I'll have one with you!

The first fish I ever caught on a rod & line was a gudgeon , well over 50 years ago...what a tussle that was! They are real fighters, you know, much more so than perch or carp. By my reckoning it must have weighed between 60 and 80

grammes

...all true, though...

In the match they took part in last week, the winner caught only one fish, a 13lb carp. The second place caught a total of 4oz. Steven caught about half a dozen small gudgeon, a total weight of just 1oz. Phil caught nothing! Big Grin

And Jenny, I'm not picky..just no Babycham !

I caught a Stickleback and some tadpoles in the canal, as a kid...does that count as serious fishing? Go on...ask me about my equipment Big Grin
