Anyone have any suggestions on fish finders?

I am looking for: depth, water temp, speed, and good quality.

In the price range of $400.00 to $500.00.

I was looking atHumminbird 3D Paramount

Any suggestions?

I wish I could tell you that they REALLY work ! I fish a large body of water and use one all the time, but I am not convinced what it is showing. If you put this one on "show 2 fish" then it shows two fish, put it on "show 3 fish" then it shows 3 fish. I see what are supposed to be fish, but I would like to take one and put some fish in a swimming poor and see what they show when the fish swim underneath. The are good for depth, water surface temp, craft speed, but I can honestly say I just don't know about FISH ! If you pay a lot of money for bells and whistles, I think you waste your money.
I wish I could tell you absolute !

Thanks for the input. I currently have a Humminbird LR 400. (Older unit that came with boat) Once you go above 15 MPH it is useless.

No speed or temp, depth seems to work fine. Like you said I’m not sure what the square icons are supposed to represent. Seaweed, sand eels, bait fish or game fish???

I have had finders since they came out on different crafts and have found none of them that will function under any speed. Some of the through the hull mid section do work better as there is less turbulance around the sensor. Where i often fish the bottom of the lake is 400 feet below sea level, I recall the water is 1400 feet deep, so they only function along shore. On the 24' craft we have (LED)? graphic readout, picture only, displays bottom contour, picture reshapes after every 100' of depth change. Works great, just don't know about the fish.............LOL

KOZ 54 The other night I went fishing with a retired fish bio and I put the question to him, do fish finders work ? He said a bio did a lake population study once with fish finders, he also said that he put fish down under the boat on a string and they showed up on the screen. Perhaps there is HOPE that they do find fish, now if they would just help catch them! This bio just bought a small new fishfinder and he said he told the salesman, "I just want to know the depth of the water, I don't care if it shows fish"> I guess finding them has nothing to do with catching them. PS We didn't catch any fish!
