I have been known to line the bottoms of my pans with aluminum foil when cooking pork or chicken or anything in the oven (I'm a lazy cleaner-upper) and I know that wax paper is useful when baking, but can it be substituted for foil when cooking, too?

Use Parchment Paper instead.

I think food release spray would work as well as foil.
