ok - - just read in the paper that they are opening one in CT (which is still too far to head for a donut!!).....

my question is WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH KRISPY KREME DONUTS????? I hear everyone always saying that they are so good...

What makes them different than any other donut?????

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

I grew up with Krispy Kreme doughnuts, a product of North Carolina. There is nothing like going into the store when the HOT light is on, seeing the process through the glass window as the doughnuts rise, are fried, and are then coated with icing, and having one of those same doughnuts moments later, melting in your mouth (they really do - you almost don't have to chew them when they're hot!).

I grew up thinking all doughnuts were this way. Then I discovered other places, but the doughnuts were always heavier, drier, or something else that didn't come close to being a Krispy Kreme.

The only way to truly discover them is to have one. Ten pages of glowing reports cannot do them justice. Hope you have a chance to discover then sometime! Based on the store locator map, I imagine they will be to Massachusetts soon.

I have YET to experience a Krispy Kreme donut...Awhile back they had just opened a new store in the cities, and the news had footage of a line of people halfway around the block!

I'm hoping that someday, I have access to one and can experience this for myself. I'm not a big doughnut eater, but I hear these are to die for! smile

We have one here in Mississauga, Ontario & for the first 3 - 4 months (Dec - about April) there was a marquee set up in front of the store for the customers to line up - up to 1 1/2 hours @ times.... towards the end of April, I decided to give them a try.... the donuts were good as long as you had them fresh.... just don't refrigerate them as you will probably be totally disgusted with all the fat left congealed on the box.... roll eyes

Refrigerating doughnuts? That's crazy! smile

We just recently got our first Krispy Kreme here in Spokane. Having worked in a Winchell's, I'm not so big on doughnuts anymore. But I have to admit, the KK's are pretty damned good when fresh. But certainly not worth waiting in line for an hour. Hell, I'm not even sure it's worth the drive. But if you happen to pass one on the way to or fro, and there's no lines, by all means swing on in and buy a dozen assorted. You won't be disappointed (except for the fact that they didn't give me any maple bars. Barbarians!)

Hi Lydia,

They are light and very fresh. Other than the hype and lip service, they are not the best but better than supermarket boxed or made. They need flavor besides sugar. Small for $.90 here in Ca. Milk is $1.39 here. We have better in SF, but not the best I have tasted.

This donut demon ignores them. I know Southerners who avoid them. The majority loves them. But it is a matter of what you have tasted before.

We had an old German donut maker in Phila. who spoiled me for anything less than his. Amy Joy Donuts, years ago were far superior.

I love watching the assembly line and the spotless operation. When the line is long they give out comps, hot from always fresh grease. Too greazy for me when hot out. Some of the fillings taste like preservative, although Twinkie lovers won't mind. Some of the glazed are very thickly coated instead of a light crackle.

No matter, you MUST try them and let us know if and which.

The almond cream are sickeningly sweet, even for me who would kill for sugar.

Put them in the microwave for about 10 seconds on high. It'll taste better than anything except for a fresh hot one.

I like Krispy Creme. For those who have never had one, I think Krispy Creme is really big on glazed and sticky. They are really soft too. That's the only ones I ever see.

I think Kroger sells them too.

We finally got a Krispy Kreme store in our area: 70 miles one way from here. My mom and sister just happened to be in the area, so.....
They were nice enough to save a few from the trip home, and all I can say is now I know what I've missed all these years, and it's a good thing the nearest store is so far away, because I'd weigh 500 pounds in no time!

They opened one up in the next town over from us a year or so ago, I finally tried one a few weeks ago. I have to say it was yummy, but I was a little disappointed, I don't know what I expected I mean it is only a donut and I LOVE ALL DONUTS!
