Does anyone know of a way to keep cut lettuce fresh longer? I always buy a giant bag of pre-cut & washed romaine from Sam's (because it's super cheap!), but I can never eat it all fast enough before the lettuce starts to get icky. Anyone know any tricks?

Place it in a "lettuce keeper". Tupperware makes one that is shaped to hold a head of lettuce. But since your's is loose I suggest placing it in an airtight plastic container. And make sure there is no moisture trapped on the leaves. It's when air and/or moisture come in contact with the lettuce that it starts to wilt. As long as it's well sealed it can be used for up to 2 weeks.

I find that lettuce lasts longer if it's not stored in something air-tight - it tends to get too moist and that's what causes it to get all slimey. I don't buy the pre-cut lettuce, but I put it on papertowels and put it in a container with holes in the top...you could also put it in those large bags that have holes in it to let air circulate.

Make sure you keep it in the crisper compartment in your refrigerator - if you have the ability to control the moisture/temp in this drawer, keep it cold and moist...
