Well, according to Butterball Calculator, for 5 adults and leftovers, it claims a 7.5 lb turkey. Personally, I don't think I'd cook one that small. I would go with a 10 - 12 lb turkey (this site claims a 12 lb turkey is the size for 8 people) as a perfect size - everyone will get the type of meat they want and you'll have plenty for leftovers for yourself and anyone who might want to take some home. The calculator above also tells you how much stuffing you need for a particular size bird... And, be sure to check out their list of recipes for leftovers!!!

Well for two adults and left over turkey for sandwiches, pot pies, well basically half a year of turkey in the house I do a 20 pound bird somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas. For the family consisting of oh about 20 people we do 2 ~ 20 pound birds and there is hardly any left overs left over. This is a "large" family with a good appetite figure about 2 pounds of bird for 1 person - got to remember that a bird also consists of bones and water that is cooked out of it so in reality it works out to about 3/4 pound to a full pound of meat per person. There is a lot of stuff on a turkey that is not eaten, wing tips, pope's nose (tail) most of the back is bone, the legs have thin "bones" unlike chicken which has only one "toothpick bone". Then there are the picky eaters to account for, those who only eat white meat or daark meat. 5 people with left overs say 2.5 pounds of fresh bird per person, comes to 12.5 pounds.
