I have a silly question about rice..I have been eating alot of brown rice lately. I like to mix in some veggies, maybe slices of cooked chicken or sometimes a tiny bit of meat..Is it good to substitute brown rice instead of white? Can eating rice everyday make you gain weight? I am trying to eat more brown rice, wheat bread or anything wheat instead of the white starchy foods. I know eating too much of anything can make a person gain weight. Any tips on food substitution for a person who is trying to lose weight without starving ones self? Thanks

Eat lots of vegetables with your brown rice, which has b vitamins and bran. Celery, carrots, onions, mushrooms, greens, they'll all go together just fine. Experiment with veggies. These days they have those nice baggies of frozen prepared vegetables suitable for stir fry. Of course home grown is best but not all of us have a garden. Salt makes you gain weight by retaining fluid, so best to go easy on the soy sauce. Chicken and a little sliced meat is fine but so is grilled firm tofu. (White rice is bad for the colon and poor nutritionally.)
If you make only about 1/2 cup (cooked) of brown rice the calorie count is not too high.

Thanks I have been eating alot of brown rice and veggies lately. I really am trying to stay away from the white stuff. I will have to try tofu. My cousin was married to a vegetarian and he gained alot of weight after..He did eat alot of pasta though when he turned vegetarian so maybe that is what made him gain so much? I used to eat alot of pasta but since I cant eat spaghetti sauce anymore I have tried to stay away from pasta as nuch as possible and I dont crave it very much anymore.
