I am trying to find out how to tie dye a mandala or starburst pattern.
I know how to tie dye several interesting patterns, having done it awhile, I can do the type where the fabric is sewn. I know about fiber reactive dyes, etc.
So, I figured I go to the source. Found the guy that knows how to do it. But he wouldn't tell me. Apparently, he learned from the person that 'invented' this techinque and promised to never reveal it.
This is the type of pattern I'm talking about:
I understand how the fabric is folded. What I can't figure out is how it is sewn/tied...anybody have any ideas on this?
Okay. I guess I'll just talk to myself here. At least I know I have a captive audience that way. ha!
Today I did my first attempt at this. The fold is right. My tecnique is totally wrong.
Frustration is setting in!
I can tell by the marks on the shirt pictured that the folds are tied extremely tight. Maybe sewn...And because of that, I think I need to use a hypodermic needle to inject the dye in the folds. I'm just not getting the precision in my design the way I am trying to do it now.
