I hope someone will answer this in a hurry, for I’m in a rush. I haven’t used my sewing machine in so long, that I have forgotten how to thread the bobbin “holder??” part. I apologize for not having the correct parts terminology.

I needed to change the color of the thread for the bobbin. I did get a new spool rewound and is now ready to go into the other part. I thought the thread was supposed to go under a “tension spring??”

Then the whole thing assembled and put back under the table part of the sewing machine. Also after the bobbin holder part is all assembled, where should the thread be after the bobbin part is all assembled so that there is correct tension without having a tangled mess?

One more question, should the bobbin tension on the machine dial be changed now that there is a new “bobbin” spool of thread being used?

The machine I’m using is a brother model.

Here is a link that might help. I would have looked into it farther, but it wants you to enter your model number. It should give you a downloadable manual.

When you drop the new bobbin into the bobbin holder, it should unwind in a clockwise direction. Hold the thread and let it fall into the slot. Holding it with just a little tension, it will almost follow the route it needs to go, and thread itself.

On the outside of the holder, there is probably a little lever that will come up. Hold that lever up and open as you place the bobbin holder into it's slot. There is a little "arm" that sticks out, so if you look at the space where you're putting it, you'll see it can only go in one way. After you have it in there, let go of the little lever and you should be good to go.

No need to change the tension, unless you're having some stitch problems.

Hope this helps.

Thanks cyndi, I will give it a try. The machine was purchased nearly 20 yrs ago so I have no idea what the model number is.

Look where you plug the power cord in. The number may be there.

Piggins, how did it go? I have a Singer but I thread the bobbin much like what Cyndi said. Mine is old too, but as long as it sews, I'm keeping it. Big Grin

It's kind of funny though because mine is in the shop right now. I was hemming some heavy jeans and when I sewed over the double seams it was too thick and it messed my bobbin up. The machine stopped picking up the bobbin thread. Maybe it's time for me to invest in a new one. My sewing machine is just like my PC...I'm lost when they don't work. Frown
