If your child is anything like mine they probably have a shoe box full of old crayons.
Here is what I did:
Take off all wrappers and break up crayons into pieces. Use a cupcake pan with liners and put the crayons in it-- put in the oven on a low setting and allow the wax to melt. Take them out and let them cool and you have crayon cupcakes.
You can mix the colors and use a toothpick to make a "tie dye" effect in the 'cupcakes' as soon as you take them out of the oven.
My little girls favorite is the ones that I used metal candy molds to make. They look like her favorite cartoon characters.
These make great gifts for little ones! ********************************************************* 08-02-02, 02:12 PM Clerky07 That's an awesome idea! Here's another one: peel off the paper, and take a plastic knife and "shave" the crayons into shreds. Shred as many colors as you want to on a piece of paper (white). Then, fold the paper in half to shut it. Turn an iron on a cotton setting, and press the paper, moving the iron back and forth over it for no more than thirty seconds at a time. When you're convinced the crayons inside have melted, open the paper and you'll see a beautiful butterfly.

Take a used egg carton and fill each cup with dryer lint. Then, melt the wax from old crayons into the cups. These firestarters last 15 minutes each and are free!
The trick is the wax. It keeps the lint and the egg cartons from burning up too quickly.
(Pointing out the obvious: Makes 12 firestarters if you bought a dozen eggs, 18 firestarters if you bought a dozen and a half eggs, etc.)

08-05-02, 09:23 AM cswchan You can also put the crayons (individual colours) into melted parafin wax (to colour) & make your own dipped candles.... just dip in one colour, dip in cold water, dip into the next colour, dip into cold water and so on.... until you have a large enough candle, hang for about an hour to allow the candle to solidify. As the candle burns down, you will see the different colours within the candle. cool

are those styrofoam cartons or the recycled paper ones?
08-05-02, 01:13 PM cswchan You should always use the recycled paper ones.... another thing you could use is wood chips (if you have a gerbil, mouse, etc.) instead of dryer lint. You can also tear up the top of the egg carton & place them into the hollows of the egg carton. cool
08-05-02, 03:13 PM MkStfnz Katanya2000, I mean the recycled paper egg cartons. I would think it would be a very unwise idea to burn styrofoam. Sorry I wasn't clear the first time.

Thanks for reminding me! smile
