An interesting piece by Richard Cohen. A Liberal newspaper (Washington Post) printing a piece like this made my eyebrows raise a little bit.

I am not sure if you need to be registered on the site to read the piece, but it is free if you choose to do so.

It’s no longer Obama-land in the Hamptons

Obama's traditional supporters, however, seem to be turning against him for reasons different to those of evil billionaires or teabaggers. The Hamptons, suggests the columnist, are disappointed with Obama because of not enough government intervention in the economy, and for incompetence in standing up to Congress.

Meanwhile, 74% of Americans still seem to think Obama is a nice guy.

'Friend and foe alike believe his speech to Congress Thursday is Obama's last best chance to reverse his downward spiral and offer swing voters reason for a "second look" before attitudes harden.' nydailynews.com

Nice guy? sure count me in that 74% as I think he is a really nice guy. Too nice sometimes. His leadership skills however are poor at best.

But a 59% disapproval rating on the economy and a general disapproval rating at 51% seems dooming. "President 'is no longer the favorite to win re-election,' Democratic pollster says," (reference same article)

"But some of the real underlying trouble is in the President's numbers on other qualities than likeability. NBC/WSJ also rated a number of other attributes on a 1 to 5 scale, 5 being the highest. On "having strong leadership qualities" the President rated a 5 or 4 from 42 percent of respondents, way down from the previous highs of his first two years in office. His rating on "being a good commander-in-chief" also suffered dropping to a 4 or 5 rating from only 41 percent, and on his "ability to handle a crisis" was down 14 points."

Is it too late to get Hillary Clinton running for president?
