Angry protests as torch reaches London

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Protesters angry about China's human rights record and its recent actions in Tibet scuffled with police and made attempts to grab the Olympic torch... - CNN

One protester used a fire extinguisher. However, he may have just been trying to rob a pizza delivery driver. Big Grin

That's what happens when you have gun laws ! Don't worry. Our Parliament is now sure to rush through a law making it illegal to possess a fire extinguisher. Fire extinguisher crime must be on the increase. (Years ago I had a case when a disgruntled ex-husband tried to burgle his ex's house. He used a fire extinguisher in an attempt to open the lock Roll Eyes)

Or he may have been trying to stop the torch bearer from getting on a double decker London bus.He was not to know that that was planned, however stupid and dangerous. Smile

Remember, when fire extinguishers are outlawed, only outlaws will have fire extinguishers.

France (and the CRS) being what they are, it will be "interesting" to see what happens over here when the Olympic torch is taken through the city. The parade starts off from the Eiffel Tower in about thirty minutes time, and from what I hear on the radio the authorities are applying a "You can't come within 200 metres" policy for the casual spectator - with as many police on duty as is usually the case for a visit by a foreign head of state.

What about my t-shirt, bought in Paris, emblazzoned with a fire extinguisher and "Put out the Fire" (in French)? Will that be the uniform of the nonconformist?

Haven't you noticed that all noncomformists who gather together dress alike? It's one curious thing about them (and something they share with 'rebellious teenagers') Smile

My daughter once visited our home and showed off her new navel piercing. The Mrs. (her stepmother) exclaimed, "Cool - that's so trendy!" That was the last we saw of the navel ring.

Smart one, the Mrs. Smile

Senator Clinton has just demonstrated her understanding of the question of boycott. She said " I want to congratulate Prime Minister Gordon Brown for agreeing not to go to the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in Beijing"

Gordon Brown is not, and never has been, in favour of a boycott, he long ago told the Chinese that he was going to the Olympics and he is. He is not going to be present at the opening, and was not expected. He is sending a junior minister to that. He is going to the closing ceremony, as the leader of the British government,to mark the transfer of duties from Beijing to London, the venue of the Olympics in 2012. Smile

There's something, at last, upon which he and President G W Bush are in complete agreement.
