# Sen. McCain says Iraq war will be "won," most of U.S. troops will return home
# Osama bin Laden will be killed or captured by end of first term, McCain expects
# Republican anticipates America will enjoy several years of economic growth
# The U.S. will be well on its way to independence from foreign oil, McCain predicts

----------
But the he hedges his bet:

"What I want to do today is take a little time to describe what I would hope to have achieved at the end of my first term as president. I cannot guarantee I will have achieved these things."
----------
After reading all that he predicts will result from his first four years in office, I can't wait for his next speech. About the only thing he left out was "Everyone will have a higher than average income." (But then, I think Dan Quayle said that first.)

Seems like he thinks he's lost already. The bigger and more optimistic or far-fetched the promise, the more desperate the candidate is becoming.

'I think John McCain has been one of the most important voices on national security policy for many years now, so it really surprises me to see him giving speeches like the one today that are almost in "lala" land. These unsupported generalizations and predictions that he would have scoffed at as the old John McCain. Lets just take a couple of examples, one is what he says about the future Iraq. He says most of the troops will be gone in four years, at that time there will be relative security in the country and that it will be a democracy. But we have no idea how that is to come about. It certainly isn't coming about by the present polices of the Bush administration and the speech gives every indication he'll continue those policies and so it's kind of a wild eyed, unsupported prediction.'
