Tuskegee Airmen honored for World War II achievements

The group received the Congressional Gold Medal on Thursday.



That salute, I think, meant more than the medal. Those men, the grandsons and great-grandsons of slaves, had every reason not to fight for a country that treated them so poorly, yet they did. This honor was long overdue, and I'm very glad that President Bush recognized them in such a way.

I hope the salute was genuine. If so, he did finally do something good. Serving in a segregated Army is totally inept. As Gomer Pyle would say, Shame, Shame, Shame!
