So, we're not going to hear what those soldiers Scotty speaks to say about the surge, apart from "we are making progress". How disappointing. I didn't think soldiers spoke at all times as if on record.
Why would Scotty and Charles prefer to scratch about on the Internet for excerpts from news and political sources when they should be able to shut our carping up with some real quotes from actual soldiers about the surge?
It's impossible to know who we are talking to on the Internet. People can adopt any persona that tickles them.
I think there are two possible explanations for Scotty's reticence about what soldiers say:
1. "Scotty" is not in fact in touch with soldiers who've been in Iraq, but is just some teenage RNC intern having a laugh.
2. The soldiers Scotty speaks to are less than enthusiastic about the progress of the surge.
(Cue explosion of abuse from Charles or Scotty which closes the thread down.)

I see the thread closing down because you can't give a good argument against what we have been saying and posting. This is typical when thing start going against you. I know that it is hard sometime to accept the truth when everything in you refuses to believe what you don't want to believe. I am sorry about that, but life is hard at times. Too many people are seeing good results from the surge, and that is possibly bad news for the Democrats. That is why you refuse to see.

Anyone you wish to blame, I guess, Fred. I have a good idea who you wish to blame.

Scotty, the truth as shown by some of your links is that the surge may be making some small progress. It may make more, or it may not. The problem is that you see a grain of sand and postulate a nice sunny beach. I see a grain of sand and wonder who tracked the sand in. (Charles, on the other hand, doesn't even see the sand, unless someone whose beliefs agree with his puts some in his hand.)
In any case, progress or not, what I see so far isn't worth almost 4000 US lives and the lives of scores of thousands of Iraqis, not is it worth over a half trillion dollars so far. bush's war has put my great-grandchildren in debt for their entire lives, and I don't even have a grandchild yet.

I am another one that can tell when I have gotten to someone. Some people as yourself and you bud, can never admit your wrong. You keep harping away asking questions that mean nothing. Did you know that on President Clinton's watch, more soldiers died in his 8 years then have died from Hostile Action in Afghanistan and Iraq together. Surly you must believe that President Bush is a hell of a President.

May, may, do you and your bud only believe the negative views from soldiers, but not the positive views from other soldiers?

Boy! Did you ever hit that nail on the head. That is exactly what they do. Doesn't take long to figure that out, does it? I might add....... a few is better than the majority.

Well, I certainly do. He belongs on Mount Rushmore.
Well, don't know if I would go that far.

What I've been asking, begging, wheedling and cajoling you for is a positive view from other soldiers. What you keep posting is the positive view from politicians, journalists and other commentators about other soldiers. The view - directly from soldiers serving in Iraq and unfiltered by journalists or politicians - represented in this thread is that the surge, on the whole, is not working and is unlikely to do so. You seem to be refusing to post an alternative view directly from soldiers. Why? What is the big problem? Why can't you tell us what soldiers are saying? Not what some Internet source says soldiers are saying, but what soldiers say to you. Scotty, of course I use Internet sources to support my points. If I could offer a comment from the horse's mouth, from my own experience, I would gladly do that too, and I have done in other threads. However, what I've got to offer here from personal experience is a couple of Kurdish students I happen to have. I'm not the one who claims to have conversations with soldiers.
