Truthout is by no means an unbiased source. As you may suspect, I often take issue with truthout articles. However, this does not make them wrong.
Whatever you politial leaning, I think the core message of this article is worth reading. Democrats have much to gain from American failure, and the article describes one possible counter-tactic. Keep your eye on the "failure" strategy as the 2008 elections take shape.

This is absurd. What could "Democrats have to gain" from American failure? Democrats ARE Americans, for crying out loud. That article is like saying the reason we lost Vietnam is because of the Hippie movement. Give me a break. Like Americans exercising their constitutional right to disapprove and protest here at Home has anything to do with what's happening half way around the world?
This is just the Republicans attempt to use the Dems as their scape goat. Like with everything else, someone else is always to blame. Anyone but Bush and the rest of his war-mongers. The Dems didn't start this war, but I'm proud of them for trying to end it. If the Republicans need someone to blame for their failure, I suggest they take a look in the mirror.
Is it just a coincidence this is released while proceeedings are in motion to impeach the V.P.?

This is only from a political perspective. Democrats have a lot to gain, politically, from failure in Iraq, from failure in foreign relations and, if the economy is doing poorly in 2008, economic failure. A party out of power can make a lot of political hay out of failure of the party in power to run the ship of state well.

As Old School Republicans, we believed Democrats to be 'tax and spend' and those who used war to fuel economy. Does that stand true today?
I'm not saying that I am a convert to Democrat, but I will say Republicans have spent quite a lot of taxpayer cash and there really is a war to financially support.
Times change and so do political parties. Neither are close to right, just corrupt because of their power of two party choice. As of today, I see Democrats that can't agree on much. That doesn't exactly give public confidence in the party.
I don't like either party and say their time came and needs to go. Run all elected officials as Independent, with no big money party backing them. There will be a bit less corruption on both sides.

Truthout.org generally takes positions to the left of the mainstream Democrats, and it is highly unlikely that it would run interference for Cheney. A search of their archives for cheney + impeach showed numerous articles supporting impeachment. Further, reading the article that newnickname linked to shows that the authors take the Democratic leadership to task for not being aggressive enough in their efforts to stop the war and find out how we were led into the war.
Looking at the authors' bios also indicates just where they stand on this administration.

You're right, DG. In truth, I just skimmed over it, rather than reading it through, as I should have. Funny how things can seem one way at first glance, and turn out to be just the opposite, in truth.
My heated response was fueled mostly by coldfuse's statement. Which, in and of itself, still holds true.
