I had been following this story of Reuters running a digitally altered photo from Beirut on a few different blogs ever since the photo first hit the wires. It didn't take long for the blogs to prove it was a fake, eventually causing Reuters to eventually remove the faked photo (a wonderful example of the power of blogs to help keep the media honest!). But I haven't been able to read or watch much of the MSM news this weekend. Has anyone besides the blogs mentioned this big no-no by Reuters?
Reuters employee issues 'Zionist pig' death threat
Worker suspended after telling American blogger: 'I look forward to day when you pigs get your throats cut' Yaakov Lappin
A Reuters employee has been suspended after sending a death threat to an American blogger.
The message, sent from a Reuters internet account, read: "I look forward to the day when you pigs get your throats cut."
It was sent to Charles Johnson, owner of the Little Green Footballs (LGF) weblog, a popular site which often backs Israel and highlights jihadist terrorist activities.
In the threat, the Reuters staff member, who has not been named, left his email address as "zionistpig" at hotmail.com.
Reporting the message to his readers, Johnson wrote on his website: "This particular death threat is a bit different from the run of the mill hate mail we get around here, because an IP lookup on the sender reveals that he/she/it was using an account at none other than Reuters News."
Speaking to Ynetnews, Johnson said: "I was surprised to receive a threat from a Reuters IP, but only because it was so careless of this person to use a traceable work account to do it."
He added: "I think it's more than fair to say that Reuters has a big problem
While that is a good question, Perhaps a better question is, What have they already "reported" on in the past that is not true and have gotten away with it?

I fully agree. When a person or an organization is caught in a lie, one must question everything he or they say.
Intelligence leaves no doubt that Iraq continues to possess and conceal lethal weapons... - George W. bush, March 18, 2003
Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction. - Dick Cheney, Speech to VFW National Convention August 26, 2002
Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised. - George bBush Address to the Nation, March 17, 2003
We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat. - Donald Rumsfeld, ABC Interview, March 30, 2003
There is no doubt that the regime of Saddam Hussein possesses weapons of mass destruction. And . . . as this operation continues, those weapons will be identified, found, along with the people who have produced them and who guard them. - Gen. Tommy Franks, Press Conference, March 22, 2003
You remember when [Secretary of State] Colin Powell stood up in front of the world, and he said Iraq has got laboratories, mobile labs to build biological weapons ...They're illegal. They're against the United Nations resolutions, and we've so far discovered two...And we'll find more weapons as time goes on And we'll find more weapons as time goes on. - George W. bush, Press Briefing, 5/30/2003

That looks like a pretty amateurish attempt at 'Photoshopping'. Surely a professional photographer could have spend another five minutes on it and made it less obvious. Why didn't Reuters spot it right away? As John's link points out, it looks fishy even to the untrained eye.
Why doctor the image? Surely not to exaggerate the damage done to Lebanese infrastructure - ordinary verbal reporting has made it clear how much has been bombed (why the airport and power stations, for example - doesn't that actually tend to strengthen Hezbollah by weakening the central government, and ticking off moderates, Christians and Sunnis otherwise unlikely to support Hezbollah?). I guess it was a clumsy attempt to make the photo more dramatic, and marketable.
Talking of clumsy, the attempt to link this to suggestions that the Qana incident was faked are kinda lame. The IDF itself has said the incident happened, and has admitted a mistake.

The link (2nd one) didn't suggest the "Qana incident was faked." It said there are now suspicions that the images from Qana may have been staged There's a big difference between "faked" and "staged" when it comes to photographs. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you simply misunderstood that wording in that portion of the article. (You see, I don't believe that you intentionally tried to deceive anyone with any misunderstanding on your part! Someone else could learn a lesson in that)
And there is evidence that some of the photos from the horrible tragedy at Qana were staged for the camera. (Caution: Very disturbing images.) News photographers are supposed to be detached from the story, not play into the hands of either side and help them with their propaganda or take staged photographs without stating in a caption that the photos are posed.
Another "re-touched" photo. By the same photographer, apparently - Adnan Hajj. Hajj says he was trying to remove dust marks under poor lighting conditions (candle-lit computer monitor?). Reuters has fired him.
Isn't it funny that all of the quotes that DG posted, most of the world believed the same thing, but he conveniently puts it on Bush and Cheney. Kinda one sided there DG. If you want I can post where all of your hero's were saying the very same words. This is a typical liberal move to move away from the subject being talked about to injecting something different.

Iraq both poses a continuing threat to the national security of the United States and international peace and security in the Persian Gulf region and remains in material and unacceptable breach of its international obligations by, among other things, continuing to possess and develop a significant chemical and biological weapons capability, actively seeking a nuclear weapons capability, and supporting and harboring terrorist organizations.
Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, February 5, 2003
quote:
"Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction, and unfortunately, Iraq has not lived up to its agreement." -- Barbara Boxer, November 8, 2002
quote:
"There's no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat... Yes, he has chemical and biological weapons. He's had those for a long time. But the United States right now is on a very much different defensive posture than we were before September 11th of 2001... He is, as far as we know, actively pursuing nuclear capabilities, though he doesn't have nuclear warheads yet. If he were to acquire nuclear weapons, I think our friends in the region would face greatly increased risks as would we." -- Wesley Clark on September 26, 2002
quote:
"The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow." -- Bill Clinton in 1998
quote:
"I am absolutely convinced that there are weapons...I saw evidence back in 1998 when we would see the inspectors being barred from gaining entry into a warehouse for three hours with trucks rolling up and then moving those trucks out." -- Clinton's Secretary of Defense William Cohen in April of 2003
quote:
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Ted Kennedy, September 27, 2002
quote:
"Saddam Hussein's regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal." -- John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002
quote:
"I share the administration's goals in dealing with Iraq and its weapons of mass destruction." -- Dick Gephardt in September of 2002
quote:
I will be voting to give the president of the United States the authority to use force - if necessary - to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- John F. Kerry, Oct 2002
My God! The Clintons, Kerry, Kennedy, Edwards, Clarke all liars. Here comes the buts................
Etc, etc, etc
